SEA-RLC Project Summary
The SEA-RLC is a regional initiative of the global GEF-funded International Waters project - Strengthening Global Capacity to Sustain Transboundary Waters: the International Waters Learning Exchange and Resource Network (IW:LEARN) Operational Phase.
The mission of the SEA-RLC is to build capacity for managing
international waters or Transboundary Waters Management (TWM) in
Southeast Asia. More specifically, the SEA-RLC seeks to facilitate the
sustainable management of shared marine, coastal and freshwater
ecosystems by ensuring access to TWM information resources.
The SEA-RLC seeks to support management efforts by establishing an online information network, with the SEA-RLC functioning as both an information repository, and as a portal linking to existing TWM resources worldwide. Information resources to be made accessible will include publicly available documents, reports, papers, maps, images and support for geographic information systems.
Over the next four years the SEA-RLC will develop the following services:
1. GIS Resources - to address needs for spatial data and information;
2. Online Communities - the SEA-RLC will establish a searchable online Expert Roster, and Specialist Networks comprising core groups of experts with expertise relevant to TWM such as mangrove ecosystem management, environmental economics and others;
3. Information Products - to address Transboundary Diagnostic Analyses/Strategic Action Programmes (TDA/SAP), Stakeholder Participation, Public Awareness, Public-Private Partnerships, and Sustainable Financing; and
4. IW:LEARN structured learning - the SEA-RLC will facilitate structured learning or learning exchange activities by accessing support through Component B of the IW:LEARN project.
